As women/girls, we have been socialized to follow the pathway of kitchen and bedroom but thank goodness this is fast changing....(Although we won't forget the international statement:"she belongs to my kitchen and the other room")....Anyway....this discussion on the SDGs will not come alive if i wasn't distracted and angry.... at my limitations.
In my anger and constructive distraction, I place myself on MY agenda (momentarily forgetting about everyone else but me) and the "Sustaining You with the SDGs" popped up. That night, May 13, 2016 to be precised, I called a few friends on telephone in my hotel room in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja -Nigeria and we christened the idea and baptized the name. Dear husband (DH) gave it a thumbs up and we rocked the idea and thank goodness we will mark our first anniversary next month September 23rd.
Our first year anniversary message to all women/girls across the globe: Get distracted and place yourself on YOUR agenda. The world has gone beyond the bedrooms and the kitchen. Its seems to be a man's world but women are born to rule it.
Back to the SDGs, this is a set of 17 development goals developed by the United Nations that will help you and I transform our world. You heard me right...yes transform and change our world; no matter where you are in the world, you can tap into this vision 2030. Excitedly, from these 17 goals we all can pick any of them and run with that vision. Just ask your self some deep-thoughtful questions on what interests you. For instance, is it helping people become self-reliant, promoting planting via vegetables gardens, planting of trees as windbreaks or to re-freshen the air or to curb erosion; could it be you're a sport lover for a healthy life style or like to teach others how to live healthy? Do you love discussing about a clean environment, encouraging others to plant flowers among others. Whatever it is you have a passion for, try and identify the niche from the 17 goals of the SDGs and its numerous targets... i guess they are about 169 targets or so and then see how you can make a difference. The power lies in you......till I come your way again, keep being SDGs compliant.
